Short version: we collect only what we need to build your app with you, we never sell it, and there is no tracking.

Who the Hectic app and this site are for
They are for businesses and adults aged 18 and over. They are not designed for children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has sent us information, email us and we will delete it.
What we collect, and why
Your account. When you sign in to the Hectic app with Apple, Google or email, your name, email, and optionally your company and phone, are stored on your device and in your own iCloud (iPhone, iPad, Mac) or on your device (Android), so they can fill in briefs for you. We do not keep a copy on our servers. With Sign in with Apple you can choose to hide your email.
Briefs and projects. When you send a brief, we receive the details you enter: name, email, optional company and phone, and your project description. Messages and files you add to a project are stored with it so we can work on it with you. Our legal basis is taking steps towards, and performing, a contract with you.
Ask Hectic and "Write it up for me". Questions you type, and ideas you ask us to write up, are sent to an AI model to produce an answer, unless your iPhone does it on the device with Apple Intelligence. Answers come from AI and can be wrong; prices and dates are only confirmed in a written quote.
Notifications. Reply notifications are created on your device. We don't use an advertising or tracking service.
Who processes data for us
Cloudflare (hosting our API, project records, files and the AI assistant), Apple (Sign in with Apple, iCloud, notifications), Google (Sign in with Google, if you use it) and GitHub (hosting this website). Some of these providers may process data outside the UK under appropriate safeguards.
What we don't do
No advertising, no tracking across apps or websites, and no selling or sharing of your data with data brokers. This website sets no cookies and loads its fonts from our own server.
How long we keep it
Project records are kept while we work together and for as long as needed for accounts and legal obligations, then deleted.
Your rights
You can delete your account in the app (Account, then Delete account), which removes your profile and saved projects from the app. To access, correct or erase project records we hold, or to object to how we use them, email hello@hecticsoftware.com. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
PIING
The app links to PIING, the studio's messenger, for talking to us. PIING is for people aged 16 and over and has its own privacy policy at piingapp.co.uk.
Client pages
Private client pages are protected by an access code and are not indexed by search engines.
